The Wild Ones Red Cedar Chapter meetings are held on the third Wednesday of the month from January-November at 7:00 pm. The location is room 139 of the Radiology Building on the campus of Michigan State University unless otherwise noted. link to map
The Radiology Building is located on the south side of Service Road just west of Hagadorn Road. Free parking is available after 6:00 pm in the adjacent lot 100. Note: Service Road is currently closed between Harrison Road and Bogue Streets due to construction on Farm Lane.
All meetings and field trips are open to the public. We always welcome interested individuals to come by and find out what Wild Ones is all about. Refreshments are usually served.

The Workshop will be taught by MSU Ph.D. student Josh Springer. Classroom study in the morning, field practice following if weather allows. Copies of Michigan Flora and Newcomb's Wildflower Guide will be helpful but not required. $20 per person, $30 per couple. Register by June 10th. Contact Sue Millar 517-675-5665 with any questions.

    Jun 17, 2009 (Wed)     June 17 will be our annual Wild Ones Red Cedar Chapter potluck. This year we will gather at Lake Lansing Park North, 6260 East Lake Drive, Haslett, MI 48840.
map to park We will be in the Sandhill Shelter located near the Trail Head on the park map. (Tip: click the magnifying glass at the top of the map and then click a few times in the upper left corner of the map to zoom in for a better view.) Dinner will start at 6:30 pm. Bring a dish to pass (main dish, salad, or dessert), along with serving utensils, your own place setting and beverage. Spouses and friends are welcome! This is a great time to get to know other Red Cedar Chapter members better. An after dinner stroll on the trails to identify native plants will complete the evening.

On Saturday, June 20th from 9 am-1 pm, the Red Cedar Chapter will be hosting a Plant Keying Workshop. Room 151 Plant Biology Laboratories Building (south side of Wilson Rd. between Farm Lane and Bogue St.) on the Michigan State University campus. The workshop will be taught by MSU Ph.D. student Josh Springer, and will focus on identifying unknown plants by working through the questions in a key. Classroom study in the morning, field practice following if weather allows. Copies of Michigan Flora and Newcomb's Wildflower Guide will be helpful but not required. $20 per person, $30 per couple.     Jul 15, 2009 (Wed)     Our July 15 meeting will be a field trip to see native plants in the landscape. Exact location to be determined. Continue to check this web site for all the details.
    Sep 16, 2009 (Wed)     Our September 16 meeting will feature Jewel Richardson of Wetlands Nursery in Saginaw. Her specialty is native Michigan aquatic plants and seeds. Learn how you can incorporate native plants in and around ponds and lakes, or in other soggy areas, to help keep the water clean and provide wildlife habitat in the process.
    Oct 21, 2009 (Wed)     Our October 21st meeting will feature Tom Small, Emeritus Professor of English, Western Michigan University and Co-Founder of the Kalamazoo Wild Ones Chapter. He will speak about The Life of the Soil and Sustaining it Through Native Plant Gardening. Come and learn about the amazing web of life in the soil that we too often take for granted.
