A founding member of the Arrowhead Wild Ones
Chapter, Carol
first became interested in landscaping with
native plants in 1996 when she attended a workshop
on the subject hosted by a local conservation
group. Carol found the combination of gardening
and native plants a perfect way to combine
her interest in the environment and enjoyment
of gardening. While serving in several positions
with Wild Ones National, Carol also works as
a registered environmental engineer with Barr
Engineering, a consulting firm that specializes
in, among other things, water-resource management
and sustainable-landscaping design.

A Wild Ones member since 1996, Maryann was founding President of the Oakland Chapter in 1999, and is active in the chapter’s activities. In 2003 Maryann became the Editor of the Wild Ones Journal, while serving as the National Vice-President of Wild Ones. While in graduate school, she became enamored with biology and botany, and hasn’t missed an opportunity since to develop her knowledge about the role of native plants in ecosystems. Maryann handles the book sales for her chapter so she can "become acquainted with all the good stuff coming on the market and that which has been around for a while." She also serves as the "voice for native plants and natural areas" on several local governmental boards and commissions.
Wild Ones has approximately 50 chapters throughout
the United States.
